The surgical tech program is an amazing way to get into the medical field without having to go to medical school. It is a two year program that will give you an associates degree in applied science. After completing the program, you will be able to work in any hospital as a surgical technologist.
The surgical tech program is not an easy one. You will be working long hours in the lab and in clinicals. You will also be taking a lot of difficult classes. However, it is worth it! The surgical tech program is a great way to start your career in the medical field.
What is a Surgical Tech?
A surgical technologist, also called a scrub, scrub tech, surgical technician, operating room technician, OR tech or sterile processing technician, is an allied health professional working as a member of the surgical team. They prepare operating rooms, arrange equipment and supplies, and help physicians during surgeries. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses.
What Does a Surgical Tech Do?
A surgical technologist, also called a scrub tech, is an allied health professional who works alongside surgeons, registered nurses and other operating room personnel to provide direct patient care before, during and after surgery. What are the Requirements to Become a Surgical Tech?
Becoming a surgical tech is not an easy task. There are several things you need to do in order to be eligible for the program. The first and most important requirement is that you have a high school diploma or equivalent. You will also need to take and pass a basic skills test, as well as a physical examination.
Once you have met all of the requirements, you will then need to complete an accredited surgical tech program. These programs typically last about nine months to a year, and they will prepare you for the job by teaching you everything from sterilization techniques to basic medical terminology.

In addition, you will need to be able to handle the stress of working in a surgical setting.
